Alaina Margaret Droog's "42 (It Wouldn't Mean a Thing)"

The sophomore single from Folk/Indie pop singer-songwriter Alaina Margaret Droog.

Alaina Margaret Droog’s latest single, “42 (It Wouldn’t Mean a Thing,” explores heartbreak and angel numbers against a calming, acoustic backdrop. Alaina brings listeners along on a journey of loss and sadness, but also realization and acceptance for a first love that just wasn’t meant to last, inspired by her own experience with heartbreak.

“When I was going through the process of trying to move on, I felt like I started seeing this person everywhere in every little thing. Particularly, I would see angel numbers, like 111, and 222. More specifically, the number "42". It felt like signs, or like some kind of universal messaging haunting me from above. So, obviously, I had to write about it.”

It’s hard to believe “42” is only Alaina’s second single release. The North Dakota-born and raised singer-songwriter is quickly making her mark with delicate yet catchy folk-pop and storytelling that is relatable yet uniquely her own.

Q&A with Alaina:

Q: “What was the writing/recording process like? What was most challenging? What was the most rewarding?”

A: “The recording process was actually kind of tough! The most challenging part was the amount of takes that we did. Since the song is only my voice and my guitar, we wanted everything to be absolutely perfect. Tucker [Bickell] was so smart about giving little notes in between each take to make it better every time. The most rewarding part I think was listening to the finished product.”

Q: “What do you hope listeners take away?”

A: “I hope that anyone who listens to '42' feels understood. We all experience heartbreak and I feel like it's a complicated process that everyone copes with differently. In sharing a little piece of this story I wrote, I hope someone else can feel seen, I hope their process can become a little less complicated or big and scary, and I hope that it can help someone feel less alone.”
