Singer-songwriter Victoria Victoria explores the melancholy of making tough decisions on this soulful, bluesy track.

Victoria Victoria’s “Tear in My Eye” is just one of the incredible tracks on the artist’s latest album Sweetest Ache – yet another collaborative effort with guitarist Charlie Hunter. While written about leaving a job to pursue music full-time, this track speaks to anyone who’s ever had to make a tough decision in the hopes of doing what is truly authentic to them.
“Tear in My Eye is a song about leaving because you need to, not because you want to...Lyrically, the song nods to the blues, and thematically centers on the empowering choice of leaving a situation that no longer serves an individual.”
Complimenting the melancholic yet hopeful inspiration behind the song, the musical landscape of this song is irresistibly groovy. It’s that overall mood that urges you to bop along and leaves you comforted by the fact that no matter what happens, everything will work out okay in the end.
Starring alongside Victoria and Charlie on this track are two of Victoria’s best friends – Maia Kamil and her sister Halle Elliott – each performing a verse. For Victoria, the inclusion of two people who were not only there for her during the writing process but who also understood what it feels like to do what's best for you, despite the wishes of others, makes the song even more special.
“As a woman, it's difficult to choose what is best for yourself with your own lens of ‘perfectionism’ and despite the expectations of others. By being true to yourself, even if it doesn't always work out, is key to an authentic life's journey.”
Beyond her own emotional journey that originally prompted the creation of “Tear in My Eye,” Victoria says the most rewarding part has been performing it live with Maia and Halle, and getting to see the audience’s response. I’m sure most of us can relate to making a tough but much-needed decision at some point, and a little reassurance in the form of a great song never hurts!
